Australian Energy Council CEO Sarah McNamara says the energy sector is “heavily scrutinised” as the ACCC investigates soaring power prices.
“The ACCC already investigates the industry on an ongoing basis,” she told Sky News Australia.
She said the ACCC releases reports on the state of the markets twice per year, with a report released yesterday being the “May iteration of that regular reporting that the ACCC does”.
“The truth is, we’re a very highly regulated and heavily scrutinised sector and that’s a positive thing,” she said.
“It means that we can provide assurance to our customers that retailers and generators are doing the right thing.
“The unfortunate fact of the matter is costs are higher and that means the cost of delivering electricity to Australian homes and businesses is also rising.”Read MoreThe Australian
