For those looking to book a vacation rental, Homes & Villas by Marriott has a new limited-time promotion.

When you book a stay of at least five consecutive nights at a single Homes & Villas by Marriott property by June 22 and complete your stay by Dec. 31, you will earn double points and a free night certificate for use at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels. You don’t need to register to utilize this promotion.

With vacation rentals in over 700 destinations, Homes & Villas by Marriott works a lot like Airbnb. The difference, however, is that Marriott Bonvoy members can earn and redeem points at Homes & Villas properties. Further, Marriott Bonvoy members can earn elite qualifying nights while staying at a Homes & Villas property. Also, the program expanded at the beginning of this year, so your qualifying spending now counts toward the $20,000 spending requirement for Marriott Bonvoy’s top-tier Ambassador Elite status.

Normally, when you stay at Homes & Villas by Marriott, you earn 5 Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar spent (a 4.2% return based on TPG’s valuations) on qualifying expenses. With this promotion, that’s bumped up to 10 points per dollar (an 8.4% return at TPG’s valuations). If you hold Marriott Bonvoy elite status, you can earn up to 75% additional bonus points. But the terms of this promotion specify that you earn double base points, not double elite points. So with the double base points, you can earn up to 10 points per dollar as your base.

The second component of this promotion allows you to accrue a free night that you can use at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels. We’re familiar with 35,000-point free night certificates (like those that come with the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card), 50,000-point free night certificates (from the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card) and 40,000-point free night certificates (which Titanium Elite members can choose as their annual Choice Benefit).

But, as the terms of this promotion don’t specify the value of the free night certificate, it’s unclear what type of free night certificate this promotion offers. We’ve reached out to Marriott to clarify this, and we’ll update this story as soon as we hear back.

Interestingly, Marriott recently added the ability to “top off” free night certificates. That means that members can use additional points to cover a hotel that costs more than the value of a free night certificate.

If you and your friend(s) happen to be booking a 10-night vacation rental, for example, it might be worth booking two separate five-night reservations between two Marriott Bonvoy accounts to earn two free night certificates.

It’s no secret that you can earn lots of points with Homes & Villas by Marriott. In fact, TPG’s executive editor earned over 200,000 points by triple stacking offers on a Homes & Villas stay last winter. It will be interesting to see the value of the free night certificate. Make sure you book here by June 22 to be eligible for the promotion.
