UK asylum plan will save government ‘billions’ if it succeeds

Former UK home office minister Ann Widdecombe says if the Rwanda migration policy succeeds it will save the country “millions, indeed billions of pounds”.

The first flight due to take asylum seekers from the United Kingdom to Rwanda was cancelled after an intervention from the European Court of Human Rights.

“The government has been upfront throughout and has said that it expected legal challenges, it expected problems, it didn’t expect an easy run to this policy,” she told Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan.
